You can't tell at all from the photos, but all of our walls are a dark grayish green except the bathroom, which is dark olive. Our last apartment was very similar colors and it felt like a cave, but then it only had a window on the front and a window on the back and everything in the middle was black granite or some other ridiculously light-absorbing material. Here we have big windows everywhere and sometimes the light is so beautiful I just lay in bed and stare into space to watch it.
In case you were wondering, yes that is a camel cookie cutter on the wall there. What else would I do with a camel cookie cutter (thanks, Sid or Ethan- whoever's perfect idea it was), surely not make cookies with it?! We have yet to hang all of our art, but we already have a piece or two on just about every wall. The dark green makes an awesome backdrop to every piece we have. So much better than gallery white! I just really wish I still had my 1'x8' painting because it would go perfectly over the couch. :( Hasta la never, 8 foot painting.
This view is pretty much our garage...I tried to keep most of it out of the photo. Having no garage and no available closet space means that all of Sam's car parts, tools, chemicals, UFO's, etc. are in piles in front of the fireplace, around the tv, in the corners, behind the furniture. Bleh. And we have random mechanical devices everywhere. Oh well, I pretend it's not there as much as possible because there is absolutely nothing we can do about it. Even keeping it in storage containers outside is out of the question because it would all either explode in the heat or scald his hands when he touched it or melt. Thank you, Arizona. We might as well live on Mars.
The bathroom is really pretty. Really small, but it doesn't matter. You never have to turn the light on except at night because the window provides perfect natural light and the whole room just glows. (I didn't notice the mirror was this disgusting until I uploaded the picture...sorry...)
Last, and most beautiful, our bedroom. Mom and Dad got us this blanket on our freezing camping trip in April and it turned out to be the best summer blankie ever. Not that we can actually sleep in 110 degrees with no AC with a blanket on, but still it makes our room feel like a summer vacation cottage. Sam's aunt had the flower painting made for us when he went home to Romania and I love the totally mismatched scale of the painting vs. the rest of the room. It feels very European to me. So I guess our room is like my European summer cottage. :) See why I love it?
That's it! Thanks for visiting! All in all, we figure we have about 600 square feet of house. You can stand at the front door and see into every corner of every room, but other than having no modern conveniences (AC, dishwasher, garbage disposal, garage, closets) it is perfect. Which I know sounds like a total contradiction...maybe it is...I don't know, but I love it.
That couch is a perfect length for a tall guy. I'm on my way!
